With U Me Aur Hum Ajay Devgan has proved that he is a good director. He still has a long way to go compared to Amir Khan but has done a great job in his directorial venture. Like Amir Khan, Ajay too has chosen a different and sensitive subject which is what makes U Me Aur Hum worth watching along with the effortless acting by Ajay and Kajol who as usual are excellent together.
The movie is an emotional telling of the story of Ajay (Ajay Devgan) and Pia (Kajol) who meet on a cruise ship where Pia serves Ajay a drink and he falls in love with her and then on does everything he can to woo her. Besides the lead couple there are also two other couples - Nikhil [Sumeet Raghavan] and Reena [Divya Dutta] and Vicky [Karan Khanna] and Natasha [Isha Sharwani] who are married but not happy.
The story follows Ajay and Pia after they get married and Ajay finds out Pia has Alzheimer which is a disease of the brain that causes memory loss. U Me Aur Hum makes you laugh in parts and makes you cry in parts but always entertains and sticks to the theme of love in marriage personified by Ajay and Pia who battle and struggle through the hurdles in their path.
The first part of U Me Aur Hum, though lacking in great writing, is light and funny. You will not appreciate the film immediately but it gradually grows on you and you will be glued to the screen expecting something big. The cinematography is brilliant and the subtle humor, glamour and good songs are an added bonus.
The topic of the film is a risky one and could have gone all off the mark in the wrong hands. It needed to be handled with a thorough understanding of the subject and a certain sensitivity that makes a great director. Ajay Devgan has done an excellent job of making U Me Aur Hum is a good film and thus proving himself a good director.
The second half of the movie is what takes out all the stops and brilliantly sheds light on what the story is all about. The dialogues are wonderful and are rendered in a heartwarming and touching fashion as both Ajay Devgan and Kajol are so adept at doing. The supporting cast have also done a decent job.
Overall, U Me Aur Hum is a good love story that’s very emotionally stirring. It will be a major draw for families and women in particular. Go watch this movie.
