Dhrona (2008) Hindi Movie Review

What can I say about this movie? Phew! The less said the better. I'm sure I echo the sentiments most of the people who have watched Dhrona when I say that it was not most definitely worth the money or the time I spent on it.

The promos for Dhrona are quite good at enticing people as they lead us to beleive that the story would be a fast paced action movie that would be interesting. Interesting being the key word here. But the movie falls way short of one's expectations.

It was no where near interesting enough for the people I saw leaving the hall half way throught the movie, whcih was almost half the number of people present. The only ones who seemed a little keyed in to what was going on were the children but even they lost the plot ever so often. The movie if good for anything, could only serve as an example of how not to make a super hero film. Any film in order to be successful needs the audience to sonnect with the central character and his motives.

I didn't feel this connection and neither did anyone else I have spoken to who was unfortunate enough to have seen it. Don't get me wrong, Abhishek Bachan as usual has done a great job of the character he has potrayed. However, good acting is not enough to form a connection with the audience, the story line also has to be compelling and entertaining. Priyanka Chopra looks ravishing as usual and has done decent work within the limited scope of her character who was more of an action figure.

The abmiguous romance between her and Abhishek Bachan leaves more to be desired. One should not have to infer anything in a super hero flick, it should be all out in the open as its ment for children more so than adults. Kay Kay Menon plays the role of the villain Riz and does a good job of a chartacter who is over the top and more irritating than villanious. None the less the cinamatography was good, the acting was decent and it was a brave attemt at a genre not the Indian audience is not familiar with.
